Decline requests you can't or shouldn't take: five no-scripts by situation — the boss, the client, the friend, the committee, the good cause.
Help me say no to: {{request}} (what's being asked, by whom, our relationship, why it's a no — capacity, fit, or don't-want-to honestly, what I fear happens if I decline). The right script for my situation: the boss version (the trade-off surfaced, not the refusal: 'I can do this if X moves — which matters more?'), the client version (the no wrapped in a redirect: what I CAN do, or who can), the friend version (warm, honest, no fake excuses that trap me later), the committee/community version (the term-limited yes or the specific-smaller yes as alternatives to the full no), and the good-cause version (the guilt-resistant no: my yes-es are committed elsewhere). Each: 2-3 sentences, no over-apologising, no door slammed. Plus: the pause script for when I'm ambushed live ('let me check and come back tomorrow' — the no is easier in writing).
